Potent Portables is a place dedicated to the NEC PC-8201A, a sister design of the Tandy Model 100 and the Tandy Model 102 laptops. If you have a NEC PC-8201A, the information and links presented here will help you get the most out of your classic laptop.

Information on the NEC PC-8201A can be rare. Most people using the Model T laptops know the Tandy Model 100 and Tandy 102 much better. While most of the Model T users have one of the Tandy models, don't be afraid to use Tandy information. The NEC and the Tandy models aren't that different from an applications perspective. From a programming perspective -- well, you might need some help. I'll try to bridge the gap.

Here are some of the sources that I've found useful. First, the great sites run by Rick Hanson and Andy Diller. These two persons have supported the Model T community for a long time. Second, the comp.sys.tandy Usenet group. Third (and not the least important), your public or university library. Librarians can help you find books on the 8080 microprocessor, the 8085 microprocessor, BASIC, the Tandy 100 and 102 laptops, and (rarely) the NEC PC-8201A itself. Fourth, the Model 100 listerver hosted by Roger Merchberger. You can sign up through the Club 100 site. Fifth, Compuserve. Their file library is one of the best out there because they were the premiere on-line service for a long time. There are files and archived on-line conferences from when the Model T laptops were new. Compuserve is a pay service.
